If the Foo Fighters, Zac Brown, Dierks Bentley, and Katy Perry had a love child, Jared Porter would be the rockin’ hillbilly wunderkind.
Porter first played in punk and alternative rock bands until the honky-tonk, blues and Motown music his dad raised him on resurfaced and he realised that it was country that was in his soul. His ever-evolving rock stained country music boasts anthemic choruses with indelible riffs while packing an energetic, crowd engaging and raucous set that will bolster the ranks of his supporters.
From his first release, Under the Sun, 27-year-old Porter was announced the 35th Toyota Star Maker winner at the Toyota Tamworth Country Music Festival 2014. The competition has launched the careers of people such as Keith Urban and Lee Kernaghan. The Californian born-and-raised, moved to Australia at 15 and was heading for a career in professional sport. Soon after, he suffered a serious rock climbing accident and sport was no longer an option for him.
Since 2014, Jared has toured with Australia’s biggest names in Country, recorded his debut album, East to West, and played at all of the major festivals in Australia. He performed at the CMA World GlobaLive Concert, in downtown Nashville during the CMA Festival in 2014. As well as this, Jared was announced as a Golden Guitar finalist for New Talent of the Year 2015, and a finalist for CMC (Country Music Channel) New Oz Artist of the Year 2015. He has been recognized as one of Australia’s leading and most prominent songwriters, and for that reason is signed as a songwriter in an International Co-publishing agreement with Dog Whistle Music Australia and Dan Hodge Music Nashville. His songwriting skills were proven once again when he was selected as the overall grand prizewinner for the prestigious US based competition, Unsigned Only, for his song ‘Pieces’. This song was also selected as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition 2016, putting him up against fellow Australian songwriters Troy Cassar-Daley and Paul Kelly. Jared has not only caught the attention of music industry professionals. In 2015 he was voted as the fan favourite for the Fender Contender Challenge, giving him the opportunity to open up for Northern California’s largest music festival, Country Summer. Jared has proven his natural love and ability for all aspects of music time and again, and it is therefore clear to see why he was selected as a finalist in the 2015 APRA Professional Development awards.
